Tsinghua University International Undergraduate Application

Application Information:
1) Personal Basic Information: Surname and given name should be filled in strictly according to the order on your passport, without any additions or omissions. The "Given Name" field should include all middle and first names. Names without a distinguishing feature should be listed under "Surname."

2) Educational Background: Please list all full-time educational information for the applicant, starting with the most recent school (first the highest level of education, e.g., university/high school, and last primary school). If the applicant's school provides GPA and ranking information, please include this (GPA should include the full score, and ranking should include the total number of students included in the ranking). At least one GPA or ranking information is required.

3) Mother Tongue: Each applicant should select their best language as their mother tongue.

4) Letters of Recommendation: Please enter the email addresses of two recommenders in the system and click "Send Invitation Email" on this page (blue text as shown in the image below). The system will send an email to the recommenders. Recommenders should fill out the form on the provided webpage according to the email instructions. After completion, they need to download and print the letters of recommendation, sign them by hand, scan them, and return them to the system. If you need to change recommenders, you can withdraw the corresponding letter of recommendation, enter the new recommender's information, and resend the invitation. Please note that you must communicate with the relevant recommender in advance to confirm their understanding before changing recommenders. Also, the data entered by the previous recommender will not be retrieved. If the recommender has not received the invitation email (sent to admissions@tsinghua.edu.cn), it may be because their email address has been blocked as spam by their email firewall. Please add admissions@tsinghua.edu.cn to your whitelist, or change your email address, save the recommender's page again, and resend the email.

5) Financial Guarantor: Please enter the relevant information for your financial guarantor in the application system and save it after confirming that it is correct. After saving, applicants can click the blue text to download the financial guarantor form, sign it by hand, and upload it along with their employment certificate/income certificate to the "Financial Guarantor Form" section under "Document Upload" in the system.

6) Immigration and Overseas Background Declaration: Applicants who are Chinese citizens (including residents of Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, and Taiwan) who have immigrated to foreign countries and obtained foreign citizenship, or who meet other conditions described in Document No. 12 of the Ministry of Education [2020], should select this item and fill in the subsequent declaration items; otherwise, leave it blank. Applicants who meet the requirements for this item must upload all required materials on this page; otherwise, it will affect the application result.

7) Document Upload: Applicants need to provide their passport, highest academic degree certificate or pre-graduation certificate, Chinese/English resume, official transcript (on-campus transcript provided by the highest academic degree school), HSK score report, etc. Please use jpg or jpeg format for uploaded files, and name the files "Applicant's Name_Uploaded Content". Each document can contain multiple image files; each page should be scanned as one image file. Sort the files in the folder by filename and select all for upload. ① Visa or Residence Permit Page: If residing in China, a visa page or residence permit page, along with an entry stamp page, is required.

② Highest Education Graduation Certificate or Pre-Graduation Certificate: Recent high school graduates should upload a pre-graduation certificate in Chinese or English issued by their high school (the high school issuing this certificate must be the same as the one issuing the graduation certificate).

③ Resume: Limit to one page; no format requirements.

④ High School Introduction: Please introduce the history, strengths, and graduate destinations of your high school. Uploading this is recommended.

⑤ Official Transcript: Transcripts should ideally include GPA and ranking information. For non-percentage transcripts, please attach a transcript explanation.

⑥ HSK Transcript: If using a screenshot of your HSK score from a website, the screenshot must include your name and other personal identification information. The original and a copy of the HSK transcript will be required for the subsequent comprehensive test.

⑦ Proof of Exemption from HSK Scores: If your native language is Chinese and you are applying for HSK exemption, please attach a personal statement explaining your Chinese proficiency. If your high school education was in Chinese, your high school should provide relevant proof of Chinese-language instruction.

⑧ English Proficiency Transcript: If English is your native language, you do not need to upload it. If English is not your native language, you must upload it to submit your application.

⑨ National/Regional Unified High School Graduation Examination/University Entrance Examination/Internationally Recognized Standardized Test Scores/International Comprehensive Mathematics and Science Ability Tests (e.g., THUSSAT International STEM Test/ TIST/SAT/ACT/A-LEVEL/AP/IB, etc.): If you have taken the relevant exams, please upload your scores here.

⑩ Letters of Recommendation: Two letters, to be filled out and uploaded directly by the recommenders via the link in the invitation email.

⑪ Personal Statement: The statement can include your plans and ideas for university study and life, reasons for wanting to pursue further studies at Tsinghua University, future career ideals and pursuits, etc. Please keep the word count within 800 words. Applicants can use Chinese or English.

⑫ Financial Guarantor Form: Download from the financial guarantor page.

⑬ Proof of Employment or Income of the Financial Guarantor.

8) Personal Introduction Video: Applicants must upload a self-introduction video no longer than 3 minutes. Please use mp4 or flv format. Video file size should be under 20MB. You can adjust the file size by changing the resolution, bitrate, and other parameters using video format conversion software.

9) Portfolio: Applicants for art (design and fine arts) or architecture programs must provide a portfolio. There are no restrictions on the number or format of works. A signed commitment letter stating that the portfolio was independently completed by the applicant is required. Uploaded files should be in .jpg or .jpeg format, and the file name should be "Applicant's Name_Uploaded Content". Each document can contain multiple image files; each page should be scanned as one image file. Sort the files in the folder by filename and select all files for upload.

10) Other Materials: If you have filled in information about awards, please provide relevant supporting documents here. You can also upload more application materials here that you would like Tsinghua University to see.

Tsinghua University International Graduate Application: Application Materials Checklist
Please fill in or upload the following application materials in the application system:

1. Personal Statement: The personal statement must be filled in directly in the application system. Doctoral applicants also need to upload a brief research experience or research plan.

2. Degree Certificates and Degree Authentication Reports: Master's applicants must submit the original Bachelor's degree certificate; Doctoral applicants must submit the original Master's degree certificate and Bachelor's degree certificate. Applicants who obtained their degrees from overseas universities must, in principle, submit a degree authentication report from the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) of the Ministry of Education. Applicants who obtained their degrees from universities within China must, in principle, provide a degree authentication report issued by the China Higher Education Student Information Network (CHESIN).

(Current year graduates may submit a certificate of expected graduation initially; the degree certificate and degree authentication report must be submitted before enrollment. Graduated applicants should provide the authentication report of their degree certificate at the time of application.)

3. Transcripts: Master's applicants must submit complete undergraduate transcripts; Doctoral applicants must submit complete transcripts for both Master's and undergraduate studies. Current year graduates may submit their current transcripts initially; the final transcript must be submitted before enrollment. If the uploaded transcript does not directly show the total GPA, a GPA verification document issued by the university is also required.

4. Language Proficiency Report: Applicants must provide a HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) score report or an English proficiency test score report at the corresponding level, as required by the program they are applying for. Please refer to the "Admission Instructions" of each department in the admission catalog for relevant requirements. Applicants who completed their undergraduate or master's studies in Chinese must provide a certificate from their graduating institution; with the permission of the department they are applying to, they may be exempt from submitting HSK score reports. Applicants intending to apply for scholarships (e.g., Chinese Government Scholarships) must provide corresponding HSK score reports according to the scholarship application requirements.

5. Two Letters of Recommendation: Recommenders must be associate professors or scholars with equivalent or higher titles, or senior professionals in relevant industries. Online recommendation letters can be completed according to the system instructions, or scanned copies of the recommended letters signed by the recommenders can be uploaded.

6. Passport: Applicants must provide the personal information page of their ordinary private passport. If the applicant holds an ordinary private passport and a diplomatic visa for use in China, the diplomatic visa page must also be provided.

Applicants who were originally residents of Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, or Taiwan, and who have immigrated and acquired foreign citizenship, and are applying as international students, must have held a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate before April 30, 2020, and must have cancelled their Chinese household registration at the time of application, submitting proof of such cancellation.

7. Some programs require additional materials (see the admission instructions in the program catalog or the relevant program's admission brochure).

8. For application materials requirements for international students with undergraduate degrees directly pursuing doctoral degrees, please refer to the "Application Guide for International Students with Undergraduate Degrees Pursuing Doctoral Degrees".

Application Instructions:

1. All certificates, certifications, and proofs uploaded must be originals in Chinese or English. If the documents are in other languages, both the original document and a notarized English or Chinese translation must be uploaded. Please scan the relevant documents in color using a scanner before uploading; documents photographed with a mobile phone or camera, and photocopies, are not accepted.

2. For inquiries regarding the chosen major, supervisor, and admission guidelines in the major catalog, please contact the relevant department or program directly. Supervisor information can be found on the department's website.

3. An application fee must be paid online along with the uploaded application materials (applicants for the Chinese Government Scholarship must also pay an application fee). Please apply and pay the application fee online from a secure location. Our university is not responsible for any losses caused by your own operational errors or the disclosure of your online payment account and password. Please consider carefully before paying the application fee online. Application fees are non-refundable for any reason if you are unable to apply. Application fees are non-refundable regardless of the success of your application.

4. Applications with incomplete materials or without payment of the application fee will not be accepted. Applicants should proactively understand the application procedures and requirements before applying. The consequences of failing to complete the application process according to the requirements are the applicant's own responsibility.

5. Our university and departmental admissions offices reserve the right to request applicants to provide original hard copies of their application materials or certified documents issued by designated certification bodies for further verification.

6. Due to differences between the education systems of some countries and China, please refer to this website for the academic degree requirements for applicants from certain countries. Relevant information can be found by clicking the link.

7. Application materials will not be returned regardless of the application's success.

8. If new policies are issued by higher authorities, our university will make corresponding adjustments.

9. Applicants must guarantee the authenticity and accuracy of the application information, application materials, degree certificates, and degree verification documents provided. If any information is found to be untrue by the admissions unit or verification department, the applicant's application, admission, or enrollment will be cancelled.

10. Applicants with issues related to academic ethics, professional ethics, honesty, integrity, or compliance with laws and regulations will not be admitted or will have their enrollment cancelled upon verification.

11. All information, documents, and messages publicly released or sent to applicants by our university and relevant admissions departments via website, telephone, email, SMS, etc., are considered served. Applicants are solely responsible for all consequences arising from their own negligence.
