Application Requirements
Eligibility for International Undergraduate Applicants at Peking University
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid ordinary foreign passport and comply with the relevant provisions of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China. In principle, applicants should be between 18 and 25 years of age (born between September 1, 2001 and September 1, 2008). They must be in good physical and mental health, of good moral character, friendly toward China, and have no criminal record. Applicants must have completed full-time senior high school education or above.
2. For applicants who were born with foreign nationality and whose parent(s) were Chinese citizens at the time of birth, or who were formerly residents of mainland China (the mainland), Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan and later immigrated abroad and acquired foreign nationality, they must meet the requirements of the document Jiao Wai Han [2020] No. 12 issued by the Ministry of Education of China, and submit the corresponding supporting documents as required by the university. Whether an applicant simultaneously holds foreign nationality and the nationality of the People's Republic of China shall be determined by the nationality identification conclusion of the relevant administrative department of the Chinese public security organs.
(1) For applicants who acquired foreign nationality at birth abroad and whose parent(s) were Chinese citizens at the time of birth: the applicant's parent(s) (the Chinese citizen side) must have obtained permanent residency abroad before the applicant's birth; and the applicant must have a record of actual residence abroad for more than two years between April 30, 2022 and April 30, 2026 (actual residence abroad for nine months or more in a year may be counted as one year, based on entry and exit stamps).
(2) For residents of mainland China (the mainland), Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan who immigrated abroad and apply as international students: they must have acquired foreign nationality before April 30, 2022, and have a record of actual residence abroad for more than two years between April 30, 2022 and April 30, 2026 (actual residence abroad for nine months or more in a year may be counted as one year, based on entry and exit stamps).
3. Applicants should possess comprehensive qualities, excellent academic performance, and lofty aspirations, with outstanding development potential, a strong sense of social responsibility, and broad international vision.
Application Materials:
(I) Material Requirements
All application materials must be in Chinese or English. Materials in other languages must be accompanied by a notarized Chinese or English translation. Templates and instructions are provided for some materials and may be downloaded. Electronic versions of materials should be uploaded through the Peking University online application system. Admitted students must bring and submit the original documents upon registration. Please keep all materials safe.
(II) Checklist of Materials
1. The bio-data page of the foreign passport (personal information page). Applicants should apply with an ordinary foreign passport; in principle, the passport must be valid beyond March 31, 2027. Applicants currently in China must also provide their valid Chinese residence permit or visa.
2. Nationality certification materials.
(1) For applicants who acquired foreign nationality at birth abroad and whose parent(s) were Chinese citizens at the time of birth, the following must be provided: ① Proof that the applicant acquired foreign nationality at birth; ② Proof that the applicant's parent(s) (the Chinese citizen side) held permanent residency abroad before the applicant's birth. If such proof cannot be provided, relevant nationality certification documents of the applicant must be submitted; ③ Entry and exit records between April 30, 2022 and April 30, 2026; ④ A letter of guarantee regarding nationality status.
(2) For applicants who were formerly Chinese citizens and later acquired foreign nationality after immigration, the following must be provided: ① Certificate of renunciation of Chinese nationality; ② Certificate of cancellation of Chinese household registration; ③ Proof of acquisition of foreign nationality; ④ Entry and exit records between April 30, 2022 and April 30, 2026; ⑤ A letter of guarantee regarding nationality status.
Proof of full-time senior high school education or equivalent. Graduating students may provide a certificate of expected graduation issued by their high school.
4、Transcripts of all courses completed during senior high school.
1、 Personal statement.
6、Relevant test scores, awards, certificates, etc. (if any).
7、Applicant's commitment letter. Applications without a commitment letter will not be accepted.
8、Self-introduction video of the applicant.
9、Peking University International Undergraduate Student Admission Application Form (to be downloaded and printed after successful online registration). A recent 2-inch bareheaded color ID photo with a white background must be pasted on the application form.
1、 Other supplementary materials as required.
Basic Application Requirements for International Undergraduate Students at Peking University:
Applicants must simultaneously meet the following basic requirements:
1. Non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport. For residents of mainland China, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region, and the Taiwan region who have immigrated and acquired foreign nationality and apply as international students, they must have held a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate before April 30, 2020, and must possess proof of cancelled Chinese nationality.
Note: Whether an applicant simultaneously holds foreign nationality and the nationality of the People's Republic of China shall be determined by the nationality identification conclusion of the Exit and Entry Administration Department of the Chinese public security organs. If an applicant is determined to possess Chinese nationality during the application, admission, or enrollment process, their application qualification, admission qualification, enrollment qualification, or student status will be cancelled.
2. Good physical and mental health, good moral character, no criminal record, and willingness to abide by Chinese laws and regulations as well as the university's rules and regulations.
3. Applicants for master's degree programs must hold a bachelor's degree or above awarded by an institution recognized by the Ministry of Education of China. Special application requirements for certain professional degree programs such as Public Administration, Business Administration, Executive Master of Business Administration, and Law shall be implemented in accordance with the Provisions on the Administration of the 2026 National Master's Degree Student Admissions issued by the Ministry of Education of China.
Applicants for doctoral degree programs must hold a master's degree or above awarded by an institution recognized by the Ministry of Education of China. Science and engineering programs accept outstanding bachelor's degree holders to apply directly for doctoral degree programs.
1. The applicant's academic performance, academic level, and language proficiency must meet the admission requirements of the program applied for.
Application Procedure:
Log in to the Peking University International Student Online Service System (URL: http://www.studyatpku.com) to fill out the application and upload the following application materials:
1. Original degree certificate and degree authentication report, in Chinese or English. If the degree certificate is in another language, both the original and a notarized Chinese or English translation must be uploaded. In principle, applicants who obtained their degree certificate at an overseas (or Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan) institution must submit a degree authentication report from the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) of the Ministry of Education. In principle, applicants who obtained their degree certificate at a mainland Chinese institution must submit a degree authentication report from the China Higher Education Student Information and Career Center (CHSI).
Note: Graduated applicants must, in principle, submit the degree certificate authentication report at the time of application. Graduating students must submit an original certificate of expected graduation or certificate of enrollment at the time of application; after provisional admission, they must submit the academic degree certificate before enrollment.
2. Official transcript from the graduating institution, original or notarized, in Chinese or English.
3. Original personal statement. Briefly introduce your academic background using the language of instruction of the program applied for, with emphasis on your research plan during graduate study. 1、 Two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors (or experts with equivalent professional technical titles) in the field of the program applied for, in Chinese or English. After the applicant submits the email request, the recommender will receive a system-generated email and may complete the online recommendation or upload a scanned copy of the signed recommendation letter according to the system instructions. 6、Original language (Chinese or English) test score report:
(1) For programs taught in Chinese, applicants must submit a transcript or other relevant Chinese proficiency certificate meeting the following standards:
Science and engineering programs: HSK Level 6 with a total score of 200 or above, and a writing score of no less than 65.
Humanities and social sciences programs: HSK Level 6 with a total score of 210 or above, and a writing score of no less than 65.
Note: Applicants who have taken the new HSK Levels 7–9 may submit the corresponding passing score report.
(2) For English-taught programs (projects), applicants whose native language is not English must submit a TOEFL (iBT, 100 or above) or GRE (315 or above) score report, or other proof demonstrating their English proficiency. Specific requirements for English and Chinese proficiency shall be subject to the admission brochures of each English-taught program.
1. Passport bio-data page. Applicants must upload the bio-data pages of all ordinary passports used continuously since April 30, 2020, which must remain valid for at least three months after enrollment.
2. Personal research achievements. A list and abstracts of published academic articles, and other original research achievements (if any, please provide).
3. Other supplementary documents required by the department/school.
Note: All original supporting documents mentioned above must be submitted as clear color scans from a scanner. Files taken with a mobile phone or camera are not accepted.
The passport name, nationality, gender, date of birth, and uploaded photo submitted by the applicant during the application stage cannot be modified before enrollment once confirmed and submitted.
Before submitting the application, applicants must carefully check and confirm that all documents (including the two letters of recommendation) are complete and qualified. Applicants who fail the review due to incomplete or unqualified materials shall bear the consequences themselves.
